HBO True Blood - Episode 4 - Escape from Dragon House

..  True Blood knows how to do it.  After a subpar third episode, True Blood comes back in true form.  The fourth episode of these new series was fantastic.  Right when I think i’m going to give up on the series, HBO shows my why they are still the best cable network around.  This episode, in my opinion, finally set the tempo that the rest of the season should follow.

Jason is once again a suspect in the murder of a beautiful Bon Temps resident. (Why do they kill off all the hot girls?)  Sookie’s grandmother asks her to use her abilities and try to find out who the real killer is in order to clear her innocent brothers name.  Jason, who is arrested while carrying V (vampire blood drug) secretly drinks the entire vile and begins suffering dire consequences.  Bill agrees to take Sookie to a vampire bar known as Fangtasia in order to investigate these murders further.  She is then introduced to Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), the oldest vampire in the region.  Sookie makes a good impression on eric by accurately telling him that the bar is about to get raided.  Sookie and Bill escape but are pulled over by a cop.  Bill uses his mind control to scare the hell out of the officer and they are allowed to leave.

That is a fast paced episode.  I hope they keep the pace up for the remainder of the season, i’m tired of this slow episode / fast episode lineup.  Give me action!  I hope the next episode can keep up the pace.

HBO airs True Blood sundays before Entourage.

HBO’s True Blood - Episode 3

The third episode of HBO’s new series aired on sunday.  I dont know what the deal is with this show.  It started weak, then the second episode was pretty good.  This episode was pretty disappointing.  I really don’t know what do think about this series so far.  I can’t decide if it is worth investing the commitment to ANOTHER tv show if there isn’t any promise.

After the climax ending of the last episode, they immediately brought the drama back down in the opening seconds of “Mine.”  The concept of this episode involves Bill having to ‘claim’ Sookie as his slave in order to save her from his psychotic Nest of Vampire friends.  After this, Sookie’s boss and her bestfriend hook up while Her brother Jason looks for Viagra.

Like I said earlier, all in all, this was a very disappointing episode.  I think i’m going to give the next episode a shot and if it fails, I plan abondoning ship.  The episode does show some promise as a familiar face from HBO will show up. Alexander Skarsgard of ‘Generation kill‘ fame will show up as a thousand-year-old Vampire that Bill will have to interact with.  Could be interesting… but will it be interesting enough?

Here’s an interesting review of the True blood series thusfar.

With shows like Entourage, Chuck, and Heroes coming into full swing, I don’t want to waste time no a subpar series.

HBO aires Trueblood every sunday night.

“The First Taste”

Although the first episode of True blood wasn’t particularly good, I promised myself I’d at least follow a few more episodes and see if the show picks up some steam.  I’m glad I did.  The second episode was MUCH better than the first installment of the series.  I don’t know why, but the pilot episode just felt bland.  I didn’t get into the characters or the plot.  The second episode was much better.

I finally am starting to feel a connection with the main characters and I’m intrigued by the possible sub-plots that will entangle the secondary characters.  I’m finally thinking there is some substance to the ideas that are being presented.  I realized this when this episode climaxed with the main character Sookie is confronted by a group of obviously evil vampires in the final seconds of this episode.  Now I’m hooked. I have to watch next week just to find out what happens to her.

The rest of the episode was better too, the characters seem to have figured out how to not over or under act, and like I said earlier, the plot is starting to pick up.

Summary:

The episode begins with Bill saving Sookie from the Rattray’s murderous attempts.  He makes Sookie drink his blood in order to heal the fatal wounds she suffered during the assault.  Sookie and Bill plan to meet the following night so she can introduce Bill to her curious grandmother who is fascinated by Vampires.  The following day, Sookie becomes aware that she now has heightened senses and is trying to figure out why.  Jason, Sookie’s brother is finally released and immediately finds another sexual encounter with Tara, and the Rattrays are mysteriously killed in a random tornado.

Hopefully the HBO series can keep the momentum generated by this weeks episode.  I’ll have an update next monday.

Here’s my review of Episode 1

HBO’s True Blood - Episode 1

I’ve always been a fan of vampires.  I don’t know why, but ever since I was a child, I was intragued by the legend of vampires.  I love both Underworld movies and most other similar films.  Needless to say, when I heard HBO was going to be making a Vampire series, I was completely stoked.

The premise for True Blood is pretty outlandish from the start.  Some Japanese firm has made a product called TruBlood.  Upon the creation of this new synthetic blood, Vampires decide that it is now safe to reveal their exsistence to the world.  I am not kidding.

The show is based in Louisiana and follows a telepathic waitress named Sookie played by Anna Paquin.   And her facination and first encounter with a vampire.

There are other ovbious subplots, but all in all, the first episode really was disappointing.  The acting was suspect.  The flow seemed very uneven.  And I didn’t get attached to any of the characters.  I really have no interest in following the show any further.  I probably will keep up with at least one or two more episodes since they block in entourage in the sunday night line up.  But for now, I am quickly losing interest in this once promising new series.  Maybe it was just a bad pilot, but I really don’t know what to expect.
