HBO’s True Blood – Episode 2
19 Sep 2008
“The First Taste”
Although the first episode of True blood wasn’t particularly good, I promised myself I’d at least follow a few more episodes and see if the show picks up some steam. I’m glad I did. The second episode was MUCH better than the first installment of the series. I don’t know why, but the pilot episode just felt bland. I didn’t get into the characters or the plot. The second episode was much better.
I finally am starting to feel a connection with the main characters and I’m intrigued by the possible sub-plots that will entangle the secondary characters. I’m finally thinking there is some substance to the ideas that are being presented. I realized this when this episode climaxed with the main character Sookie is confronted by a group of obviously evil vampires in the final seconds of this episode. Now I’m hooked. I have to watch next week just to find out what happens to her.
The rest of the episode was better too, the characters seem to have figured out how to not over or under act, and like I said earlier, the plot is starting to pick up.
Summary:
The episode begins with Bill saving Sookie from the Rattray’s murderous attempts. He makes Sookie drink his blood in order to heal the fatal wounds she suffered during the assault. Sookie and Bill plan to meet the following night so she can introduce Bill to her curious grandmother who is fascinated by Vampires. The following day, Sookie becomes aware that she now has heightened senses and is trying to figure out why. Jason, Sookie’s brother is finally released and immediately finds another sexual encounter with Tara, and the Rattrays are mysteriously killed in a random tornado.
Hopefully the HBO series can keep the momentum generated by this weeks episode. I’ll have an update next monday.
Here’s my review of Episode 1
